German Media Ambassadors 2012 in Beijing

Eight exceptional journalists from Germany arrived at Beijing to pursue the endeavors of the exchange program “Medienbotschafter China – Deutschland”. Within three months the German guests will receive exclusive insights into journalism in China and they will experience daily life and work in the partner country. The Medienbotschafter-Program, organized by the Robert Bosch Stiftung in cooperation with the International Media Center Hamburg and Tsinghua University in Beijing, is conducted for the fifth time this year.

“We are pleased to send eight extraordinary fellows to China. As decent representatives of the German media culture they will promote high quality journalism for a better mutual understanding”, said Dr. Steffen Burkhardt, director of the International Media Center Hamburg: “Sending over the fifth generation of German media ambassadors underlines the success and the sustainability of the Medienbotschafter-Program.”

The German fellows work for leading daily newspapers, magazines, online-media and TV broadcasters in Germany: Michael Radunski for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Christopher Keil for Süddeutsche Zeitung, Anton Notz for Financial Times Deutschland, Stefan Schultz for Spiegel Online, Jannika Katharina Schulz for RTL Television, Birte Meier for ZDF, Katrin Scheib for DerWesten and Sabine Gusbeth for the business magazine Euro. Please find more information about the media ambassadors 2012. During their stay in China they will have the chance to learn about Chinese journalism by working in German- or English-speaking offices of renowned media outlets in China.

For the German fellows the stay in China also contains a one-month training course at Tsinghua University in Beijing. In seminars, discussions and excursions the media professionals gain broad knowledge about Chinese media and various other aspects of life in the host country. “The training course prepares the fellows for their internships and for their journalistic challenges in China. It improves not only their skills in research and writing, but also their abilities in intercultural communication”, said program director Lillian Zhang who welcomed the German “Medienbotschafter” at the Beijing Capital International Airport and will accompany them until they leave on December 13, 2012.
