Learning Intercultural Understanding

Our eight German “Medienbotschafter “ in 2013 are: Florian Arnold from the Braunschweiger Zeitung, Fabian Kretschmer from the Austrian newspaper Der Standard, multimedia artist Jessica Broscheit, online editor Moira Lenz as well as the freelance journalists Alexander Stirn, David Weyand, Katharina Finke and Jochen Pioch. In their first month in China they took part in seminars and discussions on China’s culture, political system and media. The goal was to foster their intercultural understanding and to improve their abilities to report about Sino-German subjects.

The Training Course started off with a seminar held by the Chinese Professor Yaling Pan on intercultural communication. A variety of further seminars consisted of topics concerning developments in the Chinese media industry, each one conducted by either a designated Professor or an excellent media professional from China. In addition to the events at the Tsinghua University the eight “Medienbotschafter” also took part in conferences about Sino-German relations. The high level information from the Training Course will help our fellows to prepare themselves for their internships in media companies such as China Daily, Global Times, Xinhua News Agency, Caixin, Beijing Rundschau, South China Morning Post, The Economic Observer and China News Service.
