Yimin Chen awarded with the SOPA Prizes


On June 15th, the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) announced 102 awards in 18 categories for outstanding journalism at its annual SOPA Awards for Editorial Excellence gala dinner at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Media ambassador Yimin Chen, a reporter of Ming Pao Weekly in Hongkong , received for the second time with the SOPA prizes, which are considered to be one of the most  prestigious journalistic prizes in Asia.

Yimin Chen received two SOPA awards this year. She was given the Award for Excellence in Category “Excellence for Lifestyle Coverage” for her coverage on “Tattoo and Identity”, as well as the Honorable Mention in Category ”Excellence in Feature Writing” for her in-depth report on psychiatric patients in Hongkong “Rugged Road to Recovery for Patients with Serious Mental Illness”.

Yimin Chen was chosen as media ambassador in April 2015. Shortly before she joined the Media Ambassadors Program in August 2015, she was given the Award for Excellence in Category “Excellence in Reporting on the Environment” for her report on noise pollution titled “Where to find the inner peace” by the SOPA.

The SOPA Awards for Editorial Excellence were established in 1999 as a tribute to editorial excellence in both traditional and new media, and were designed to encourage editorial vitality throughout the region. The awards cover a broad range of categories reflecting Asia’s diverse geo-political environment and vibrant editorial scene.
